About Community Cars 

Community Cars provides essential journeys for those unable to use public transport due to mobility issues or ill health. Our team of friendly Volunteer drivers use their own cars to transport passengers to hospital, GP and other health appointments and can also help people to stay socially active.   

Community Cars serves residents across Watford and Three Rivers and provides a safe, reliable, and affordable service. We charge 65p per mile.  

Request a journey 

Our drivers are available for journeys during the day from Monday to Friday. Occasionally we can meet one-off requests for transport in the evenings and weekends.  

We accept booking requests from individuals as well as referrals from family members, carers, and professionals.  

When requesting a journey our bookings team require the following information:  

  • The passenger's full name  
  • Name of person booking the journey (if different to above)  
  • Pick-up address (including postcode)  
  • Time of your appointment and requested pick-up time  
  • Destination address (including postcode)  
  • If a return journey is required, we will need a pick-up time and a return address (including postcode)  
  • Details of any mobility aids such as a wheelchair, walking frame or guide dog etc.  
  • Any other information that you feel is relevant to the journey.  

We typically require a minimum of one weeks’ notice for booking requests but please try to provide us with as much notice as possible as this means that we are more likely to be able to find a driver for you.   

Outside of these hours you can leave a voice mail and we will get back to you the following day.

Charges 

We charge a set rate of 65p per mile regardless of the purpose of your journey. This is calculated from the start to the end of the driver’s journey (usually their home address). We try our best to match passengers to drivers in their locality to keep charges as low as possible. A minimum charge of £5 will be applied for journeys. 

We will not charge for waiting time of up to an hour, but if your driver needs to make a double journey then we ask you to pay the cost of the mileage covered. You will also have to pay any out of pocket costs the driver incurs. For example, if there are car parking costs or if the journey involves travel through London’s Congestion Charging Zone or over a toll bridge. These costs will be added to your invoice.  

You will receive an invoice from us stating the total mileage costs and any out-of-pocket costs that may also be due.
