Raise a Smile Festive Appeal
Raise, the charity for Watford General Hospital, has launched its ‘Raise a Smile this Christmas’ appeal, so every patient spending the festive season in hospital, away from their loved ones, has a present to open.
Charity CEO, Samantha Sherratt, said: “Christmas is all about sharing good times and exchanging gifts with friends and family. Unfortunately, many people fall ill and need to spend those special days in Watford General. But we’re determined that our patients don’t miss out on the spirit of the season simply because they are in hospital.
“Presents are hugely important – it’s about keeping the magic alive. While we know everyone’s facing challenges at the moment, it would be wonderful if local businesses and the local community could support our ‘Raise a Smile this Christmas’ appeal by making a donation or buying a gift from our wish list.”
Chief Nurse, Tracey Carter, adds: “Everyone wants to be home for the celebrations. Despite all our efforts to reunite people with their families over Christmas, some patients are simply too poorly, live too far away or have no family to visit them. Staff and volunteers work hard to make December a happy time, and they will go to great lengths to show extra care, kindness and compassion.”
In previous years, kind-hearted members of the public have brought presents into the hospital, but with infection control measures in place, that is more difficult this year. Instead, the charity is asking for donations, so it can buy gifts for patients directly. Alternatively, it has a wish list on its website so people can order them online.
Samantha Sherratt adds: “Please be assured that we will spend all donations wisely and bring joy to patients in hospital this festive season. Any donations the public can make will make such a difference because patients will know that well-wishers are thinking of them. Thank you so much.”
